There were approximately 20,000 people present in the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium to watch the third day’s play of the second test match between India and Australia. Most of them had come to watch the batting of only one man i.e. Sachin Tendulkar.
The little master was expected to bat on the 2nd day. But, because of the marathon partnership between Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara, he had to spend the day in the dressing room.
But, in the first session of the third day, the 2nd wicket partnership was broken. As soon as Vijay got out off the bowling of Glenn Maxwell, the crowd made a loud noise as if they were waiting for a wicket to fall.
Sachin walked on to the park and he got a warm reception from the crowd as usual. The crowd was expecting another fine knock by the little master.
Sachin started well. He was looking composed and was coming solidly behind the line of the deliveries. He was looking in no trouble whatsoever at the crease.
He also played a delightful cut shot towards the point boundary for a four. But, when he was playing on 7, he got out in an awkward fashion. A delivery from James Pattinson was on his pads and he tried to glance it fine. But, unfortunately, he didn’t manage to hit the ball from the middle of the bat. The ball took the inside edge of Sachin’s bat and Matthew Wade behind the stumps took a fantastic catch.
The field umpire referred it to the TV umpire to check whether the catch was taken cleanly or not. The television replays showed that Wade took the catch cleanly and Sachin was adjudged out.
The spectators were hugely disappointed by that dismissal and most of them immediately left the ground.
