The middle order batsman of England, Jonny Bairstow, will not be able to play for Yorkshire in the upcoming Champions League T20 due to his wrist injury. On the place of Bairstow, the young wicketkeeper Ed Wilson has been included in the Yorkshire squad. However, Bairstow is expected to get fit for the test series against India which is going to start from the 15th of November.
Bairstow is supposed to be included in the XI for the first test match against India. Bairstow was called back in the England test team for the third test match against South Africa and he had scored two half centuries in that match. He had scored 95 runs in the first innings and 54 in the second innings. Due to his brilliant performance in that match, the selectors decided to include him in the test squad for the India tour.
After being ruled out of the Yorkshire squad for the Champions League, Bairstow said, “I was very excited to play in the Champions League. It’s a big tournament and I was looking forward to it. It’s pretty disappointing to miss such a big tournament.”
Yorkshire would have to play in the qualifying stage first. The six teams participating in the qualifying stage are divided into two pools. Yorkshire is in pool 2. The other two teams in Pool 2 are Uva Next and Trinidad and Tobago. Yorkshire will qualify for the main draw only if the team manages to top the Pool 2.
Bairstow seemed to be pretty hopeful about Yorkshire’s chances in the upcoming Champions League. The wicketkeeper batsman said, “We have got a good bunch of players and there are some genuine match winners in our team. If we play up to our potential, we will easily qualify for the main draw and then, hopefully, will win the tournament.
