The emphatic loss to Australia in the first Test of the 4 match series Down Under does not seem to be the only thing that is bothering India’s Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the moment. The Indian media have raised plenty of questions regarding his capabilities as a skipper to handle the tough situations, particularly in strong Test playing nations, citing the whitewash the Indian team had to suffer in the hands of England only a couple of months after winning the Cricket World Cup on home soil.
There was almost an uproar throughout the country after the hard hitting middle order batsman led India to a first victory in the Cricket World Cup after 28 years but that achievement was soon forgotten when the team had to suffer a 4-0 whitewash at the hands of England. As a matter of fact, many former cricketers have also raised doubts whether Dhoni is the right man to captain India because his record against the top Test playing nations on their home turf is extremely poor, having suffered a series loss to South Africa and England just before and after the Cricket World Cup of 2011.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly even went to criticize Mahendra Singh Dhoni saying that his side lacked the mental aggressiveness that is extremely necessary for teams who come Down Under. He further added that if Dhoni didn’t do anything about the team’s attitude, they will be slaughtered by the Aussies in their own backyard.
However, no comments have been made regarding this criticism by Dhoni and it might seem that the man with the magic touch, according to many, is getting ready to hit back at his critics by letting his bat and his teammates do the talking on the field, which is always a good thing for a cricketer.
