Gilchrist Calls Time on IPL Career

Australian cricketing legend Adam Gilchrist has finally decided to hang up his boots, now that his team the Kings XI Punjab has been knocked out of the fifth edition of the hugely popular and money making machine known as the Indian Premier League. Speaking to the media after the end of the last match for the team from Chandigarh, Gilly stated that the times of him wielding the bat on the field might be over and it would be extremely unwise to put on a bet on him returning to the Kings XI Punjab set up in a playing capacity next season.

Gilchrist, who is one of the finest wicket keeper – batsmen to have graced the world of cricket had retired from international cricket back in 2008 and had only been playing in the Indian Premier League since then with a stint with the Middlesex Panthers in England’s Friend’s Provident Twenty 20 Championship as well. But Adam Gilchrist, who was acquired by the Kings XI Punjab in the 2011 auction was given the role of a player-coach by the franchise and it is being believed from his statement that he will return to Punjab next year as the coach of the side.

Gilchrist had missed around eight matches in the IPL this season with a niggling injury and returned only with a couple of matches left, during which time; David Hussey had taken over the role as captain of the side and the punters are placing bets on this being repeated in 2013.

But Adam Gilchrist did mention that no final decision was made and he will think about it when he goes home. He added that there is another year left on his contract and he will talk about it with the owners, but he stated that when the heart was not in it, it was not worth it.
