SUSSEX NET WIN

Monty Panesar couldn’t contribute much for his county Sussex in their first match of the season against Yorkshire, but, despite that, Sussex secured a huge win.

Sussex defeated Yorkshire by an inning and 12 runs and started the season in a blistering way.

On the first day, the captain of Sussex, Ed Joyce, won the toss and invited Yorkshire to bat first. His decision was proved right by his bowlers.

Each and every Yorkshire batsman looked in horrible nick and only three of them managed to get into the two figures.

Jonny Bairstow was the highest scorer with 29. Chris Jordan was the one who completely demolished the Yorkshire batting line up. He took 6 wickets for just 48 runs.

Monty bowled only a couple of overs in the first innings. One of them was the maiden, while, in the other one, he gave away one run. He didn’t get any wicket though.

Sussex replied strongly. Three of their batsmen scored half centuries and they managed to put up a total of 356 on the board. The skipper Ed Joyce and the wicketkeeper Ben Brown were the main contributors with the bat. Both of them got out in the 90s. Joyce scored 92, while, Brown scored 93.

Now, to save the inning defeat, Yorkshire had to score at least 260 runs in the second innings, but, they couldn’t do that. They put up a comparatively better batting performance, but, that wasn’t enough to save an inning defeat.

Yorkshire got all out on 248 in the second innings and lost the match. Monty bowled a long spell in the second innings, but, he remained wicket less. He bowled economically though and gave away only 63 runs in his 24 overs.

In the second innings, the stand out performer for Sussex with the ball was Steve Magoffin who dismissed 5 Yorkshire batsmen.
